Cedar & Maple City |
|
Nestled in the southern end of Leelanau County are two villages that share a colorful past and are looking to grow for the future. Maple City is surrounded by rolling hills, lovely green in spring and summer and a blaze of color in the fall and on the outskirts of Maple City are the best ballfields in the county. This sleepy village, home of the world's tastiest jerky made at Gabe's, is only a stone's throw from Cedar. The lazy Cedar river winds past the the heart of Cedar, which are alive with activity all through the summer. Cedar is proud of her Polish heritage and this is especially evident for a whole weekend of Polka and saurkraut at the annual Polkafest each July. Cedar is also home to Pleva's meats, Cedar Rod and Gun Club, and one of the oldest churches in the county - Holy Rosary Catholic church.
